But First... Water
Yes, yes, we’re still grounding, but hear me out. Our first home is in the waters of our mother’s womb. A comforting, cushioning pool of nutrients, antibodies, hormones (and anything else scientists have yet to discover) that informs a growing little system about the world it will be heading into… right down to the flavours and language of the culture it will be born into.
“The cycle of life is literally fluid creating structure, like waves shaping sand.”
— DR EDEN FROMBERG
In the belief that a baby is an isolated little bubble, however, most people forget that water is the ultimate conductor of electrical currents (making a baby the receiver of whatever energy fields a mother is exposing herself to, human or electronic*. A developing embryo is in fact 90% water by weight. Once earthside, we go on with our lives quickly forgetting that we are in fact 60% water. That water is not simply there to hydrate us, it is there in all the cells and fascia (the casing of connective tissue that surrounds and holds every organ, blood vessel, bone, nerve fiber and muscle of our bodies) to conduct messages… constantly. Without it, those messages are going nowhere.
It flows from there then, that in order to experience the benefits of grounding, we need to be well hydrated, with good quality water free of chlorine (which damages the gut and inhibits water absorption), heavy metals and fluoride which calcifies our pineal gland (a gland that not only regulates our sleep cycles but is the energetic centre for our third eye ie. our intuition). So, instead of reaching for a double espresso at dawn in an attempt to power you through to… well… your next espresso, give your system the liquid it needs and then step outside to connect to a more sustainable power source.
Mother Earthed Morning Ritual
Keep a glass of water next to your bed so that you can begin your rehydration after a night of detoxing, repairing and, if you’re pregnant, doing some important construction work (with hopefully not too many bathroom trips). .
Then prepare another glass for your morning grounding meditation. You might like to add a little cleansing lemon juice to that. I love to add a tiny pinch of Himalayan salt to mine. The minerals in it actually boost your body’s uptake of water, and these electrolytes are an important part of that energy communication system.
Take that glass outside with you and just sit with it for a minute. Just like you, it will be picking up the energy of the earth and sun.
Before the fist sip, mentally say the following:
I give thanks for this opportunity to cleanse and replenish my body and connect with Earth’s vitality

*NOTE:
This is not mean to terrify any mothers. We have all sat there at some point with our phones on our bellies. This is intended to inform, so mothers can introduce earthing practices to their days to neutralise some of the energy that’s stressing your system and restore balance.
